映画『ベンジャミン・バトン 数奇な人生』は、８０歳の容姿で産まれ、歳を経るごとに若返るベンジャミン・バトンが全編１６７分の中で運命の女性デイジー・フラーと何度も出会い、そして別れる物語である。
ベンジャミンが初めてデイジー（６歳）と出会うのが１２歳のとき（容姿は６８歳）。
あるときはベンジャミンが老いすぎていた。
またあるときはデイジーが若すぎた。そしてまたあるときはその両方だった。
それでもベンジャミン・バトンとデイジー・フラーは出会い、別れ、再会し、また別れる。
そんな映画『ベンジャミン・バトン 数奇な人生』の山場はこんな形で訪れる。
Sometimes we are on a collision course, and we just don't know it.

A woman in Paris was on her way to go shopping.

But she had forgotten her coat, went back to get it.
（だが、コートを忘れ、部屋に戻った）
When she had gotten her coat, the phone had rung.
（彼女がコートを取ったとき、電話が鳴った）
So she had stopped to answer it and talked for a couple of minutes.
（彼女は電話に出て、数分の間、話をした）
While the woman was on the phone, Daisy was rehearsing for a performance at the Paris Opera House.
（女性が電話に出てた頃、デイジーはオペラ座での公演のためリハーサルをしていた）
And while she was rehearsing, the woman, off the phone now had gone outside to get a taxi.
（デイジーがリハーサルをしている中、女性は電話を切り、外に出てタクシーをつかまえた）
Now, a taxi driver had dropped off a fare earlier and had stopped to get a cup of coffee.
（その時、一人のタクシーの運転手がいつもより早めにコーヒーを飲んでいた）
And all the while, Daisy was rehearsing.
（その間もずっとデイジーはリハーサルをしていた）
And this cab driver, who dropped off the earlier fare and had stopped to get the cup of coffee he picked up the lady who was going shopping and had missed getting the earlier cab.
（そして早めの休憩をしていたタクシーの運転手は、買い物に行こうとしてタクシーを捕まえ損ねた女性を拾う）
The taxi had to stop for a man crossing the street who had left for work five minutes later than he normally did because he forgot to set his alarm.
（タクシーは道を横切る男に急停車する。男は目覚ましをセットし忘れ、いつもより五分出勤が遅れていた）
While the man, late for work, was crossing the street Daisy had finished rehearsing and was taking a shower.
（遅刻した男が道を横切っているとき、デイジーはリハーサルを終え、シャワーを浴びていた）
While Daisy was showering the taxi was waiting outside a
boutique for the woman to pick up a package which hadn't been wrapped because the girl who was supposed to wrap it had broken up with her boyfriend the night before and forgot.
（デイジーがシャワーを浴びている頃、タクシーはブティックの外で女性を待っていたが、品物は包装されていなかった。包装するはずの店員が昨夜彼氏と別れ、忘れていたからだった）
When the package was wrapped, the woman, who was back in the cab was blocked by a delivery truck.
（商品が包装され、女性が戻ったときタクシーは宅配のトラックに道をふさがれた）
All the while, Daisy was getting dressed.
（その間、デイジーは着替えをしていた）
The delivery truck pulled away and the taxi was able to move.
（宅配のトラックは立ち去り、タクシーは動き出した）
While Daisy, the last to be dressed waited for one of her
friends who had broken a shoelace.
（着替えを終えたデイジーは、靴ひもが切れた友達を待っていた）
While the taxi was stopped, waiting for a traffic light.
Daisy and her friend came out the back of the theater.
（タクシーは信号を待ち、デイジーと友達は劇場の裏口から外に出た）
And if only one thing had happened differently
（もし、一つでも違った展開になっていたら）
...if that shoelace hadn't broken.
（靴ひもが切れてなかったら）
...or that delivery truck had moved moments earlier.
（宅配のトラックが少し早く動いていれば）
...or that package had been wrapped and ready because the girl hadn't broken up with her boyfriend.
（店員が彼氏と別れずに商品が包装されていたら）
...or that man had set his alarm and got up five minutes earlier.
（男が目覚ましをセットしていて五分早く起きていれば）
...or that taxi driver hadn't stopped for a cup of coffee.
（タクシーの運転手がコーヒーを飲んでいなかったら）
...or that woman had remembered her coat and got into an earlier cab.
（女性がコートを忘れず、早くタクシーに乗っていれば）
...Daisy and her friend would have crossed the street and the taxi would have driven by them.
（デイジーと友達は道を渡っていたことだろうし、タクシーはその側を通っていたことだろう）
But, life being what it is, a series of intersecting lives and incidents out of anyone's control that taxi did not go by and that driver momentarily distracted.
（だが、連なり交じり合った人と出来事が人生で、それは誰にもコントロールできない。タクシーは通り過ぎず、運転手は一瞬目を離していた）
And that taxi hit Daisy and her leg was crushed.

そして、このシーンの後、傷を負い、混乱しているデイジーはベンジャミンに「Just stay out of my life.」と言う。
言われたベンジャミンは一瞬うつむき、そして顔を上げる。
その顔にはあらゆる感情や表情が消えている。
監督のデヴィッド・フィンチャーは（「きっと、それぞれの経験によって映画の持つ意味は変わる」と踏まえて）こう語っている。
「ブラッドの演技は今までの中で最も胸を打つものだった。彼のリアクションが素晴らしい。何度も撮る必要はなかった。台詞の後の彼の反応が信じられないほど見事なものだった。４～５テイクで終わった。ここはとても勉強になる。ブラッドの反応を見てほしい。彼女に“関わるな”と言われる。顔を下げ、次にほぼ無表情になる。何とも驚くべき演技力だ。彼女を見るシンプルな表情からいろんな感情や思いを感じ取ることができる。彼女の思いを受け止め、ただぼう然として彼女の顔をじっと見つめる。編集のカークも驚いてたね。１０秒か１５秒は止まってたよ」
